About 10,000 years ago, rain pouring over the mountain region of Ajusco-Chichinautzin created an underground river which now surfaces at El Borbollón, the birthplace of the river at
Las Estacas.
Throughout these years, important biodiversity has evolved. We have detected different animal and flora species:
160 different birds, 110 land plants, 11 fishes, 8 mamals
y 3 reptiles.
Also: turtles, crabs, iguanas, river langostines.
Proyects completed :
1. Inventary of the different animal and flora species which crows the park.
2. 1,000 sq meter pond to raise tilapias
3. Unique in its kind greenhouse for local plants.
4. Training of the park workers on seed collection.
5. Training of the park workers on fito-sanitary treatment of vegetable species.
6. Training of the park workers on environmental conservation and consecuences.
7. Compost of selected organic matter which covers the current needs of the park gardens and greenhouse.
8. Reintroduction of different native river species.
9. Ordering, trimming and sistemic grow of most representative vegetable species.
10. Reforestation of the park with 8,000 individuals of different species of the zone.
